About Us
Our focus on functional cattle with some power and style is at the heart of our breeding philosophy. We select for cattle that perform and produce in our environment, and while we appreciate a pretty face, our cows need to have the functionality to back it up. While the majority of our herd is made up of Simmental influenced genetics, our Beefmaster influenced females are just as important.
MBK Cattle will always first and foremost be a family affair, and the heart of the MBK team is Matt, Brandi, Mason, and Miles. Being located in Starkville, MS, our proximity to Mississippi State University means that we are fortunate to have great college students join our team each year.
Meet the MBK Team
Matt and Brandi
Matt grew up in La Grange, TX with Beefmaster cattle, and the foundation female of our Beefmaster herd (Paige) was the highlight of his junior show career winning Champion honors at the San Antonio his senior year. There was only one place he ever considered going to college, and that was just up the road to Texas A&M. There he had the opportunity to work at the Beef Center with their Simmental herd, and was a member of the Livestock Judging Team. After graduation, he had the opportunity to manage the Brahman show barn for V8 Ranch, which brought about many learning opportunities, and great friendships. His off farm career is as a Sales Specialist for Purina Animal Nutrition, and the MBK herd serves as a proving ground for him for many of the products he sells.
Brandi grew up in Donaldsonville, LA and is a Simmental girl through and through. She is a proud product of the American Junior Simmental Association, and showed cattle at the state and national level. Her path through college took a little longer journey, where she began just up the river from home at LSU. There she was fortunate to work at the Purebred Beef Unit and be a member of the Livestock Judging Team. Graduate school took her west to Texas A&M where she focused on beef cattle nutrition, and she liked it so much she stuck around for both a Masters and Ph.D. Her off farm career is serving as the Extension Beef Cattle Specialist for Mississippi State University where she leads educational efforts for the state's beef cattle producers as well as conducts research in cattle management and health.
